My son (a communications [TV/broadcasting] major) is really struggling with the choice of Elon vs Ithaca College's Park School. Anyone have any experience with the Communications program at Elon? How early in their college careers do students do "hands on" work in the field? How is the faculty? Luck with internships both around NC and elsewhere? We all loved Elon but are concerned that the communications program just doesn't stack up to Park.

I don’t know about College Park so I can’t compare the schools for you. What I can tell you is that Elon’s Communication Major is very well thought of and also very hands on. Most of what your asking can be found on Elon’s website… The Communication School is a huge part of Elon and one of the most popular majors (about 20% of Elon’s students). You might want to go on Facebook and look up some of the Communications Fellows, they might be helpful. Also I remembered this a an interesting opinion [YouTube - CNN Journalist Anderson Cooper discusses Elon University’s School of Communications](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyCkGKPu834)

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful…

I know first year students who have had radio time and were allowed to do pieces for Phoenix 14 (Elon’s news show; can be time consuming). These are activities done outside of class.

I hear the communications program is really good here, but I’m not a communications major. Elon seems to have a lot of connections with alumni in that field though. I know of a few students who had internships reporting at the Olympics a few years ago. I know nothing about Ithaca College Park’s program.
