Communications Schools Questions!

Hey there... So the schools I'm tossing around right now are Syracuse University, American University and Northwestern University. I applied to all of them for their film/tv/radio program or whatever the equivilent is. I have a feeew questions. Any help would be great!

1 - Obviously which school do you think has the best program/overall experience? I'm a pretty normal kid but I'm not really looking for any crazy parties or anything and I'm not very sporty, but that's not a huuuge consideration. Also, does anybody know anything special/good about the programs individually?

2 - The people at Syracuse told me that their name is one of the best known school names among people in the communications field. Is that true and does name recogition actually matter in the field?

3 - I've heard that northwestern is really greeky... does anyone know if I didn't really want to get involved in that because of my semi-dislike of big crazy parties if I woulf be really bored and friendless on campus? I want to have fun! Just not really in a Frat...

Thanks!

Depending on what you plan to do in the comm field, your school name can help you - but more importantly, the alumni network is what really can help you. Going to a school which is well ranked in comm - which is a notoriously difficult field to break into - can really help you get internships and get your first job when you graduate, not only due to its strong rep, and the excellent experiences you’ll gain on campus, but also via your alumni network.

Syracuse has a great name in the communications field. But Northwestern outranks them in comm. NW, I’d consider them to be the #1 ranked school in your field. Syracuse is around #9 and again yes, it has a great rep. American isn’t in the top 25.

How about emerson college in Boston? I have a relative in the TV business who says they highly value the Emerson name and they have a great alumni connection. You can do a program in L.A. in senior year. the facilities are gorgeous and it’s in a great part of boston. just a place to throw in the mix.
