hey everyone..i was accepte to both Newhouse at syracuse and COM at BU..i know both have great programs and Newhouse has a better rep but i love the city of boston and its so hard to decide..both were my first choices..

any suggestions??

Depends. Are costs panning out about the same? What area of communications are you looking to go into? Newhouse is particularly strong in broadcast, but more on par with BU when it comes to print. Also, although you say you love Boston, Syracuse will definitely give you the typical college experience whereas BU will not because it is a city school and doesn't have a real campus...

Four years ago my daughter was in your position. Now she is about to graduate from Newhouse. Although she was infatuated with the city of Boston we insisted that she go to Syracuse because she received a merit scholarship there. She knew that Newhouse had a more prestigious reputation so she accepted our decision. At the time we attended accepted student programs at both BU and Syracuse. We found the faculty at Syracuse more exciting and the accepted students more impressive.

Four years after that initial decision I can tell you that it was a great choice for her. She has had the time of her life at Syracuse. She was very involved in a sorority and has had the typical college type of experience. As far as career opportunities - she has had extremely prestitious and difficult to get internships at magazines in NY. The Newhouse name as well as alumni that she met while at her internships really helped her. My daughter tells me that the media is full of Newhouse graduates which is an invaluable source of contacts.

If your have the opportunity, I suggest that you attend accepted student programs at both BU and Newhouse to get a better feel of which school will be right for you.
