I am about to begin my freshmen year at Syracuse University, and more importantly, the Newhouse School of Public Communications :). My dream job is to write for a newspaper, preferably writing sports. I am currently a duel major in Newhouse and the College of Arts and Sciences, for newspaper and spanish language, respectively. I originally chose to major in spanish language because I'm good at it, I have 12 transfer credits, and it's probably a good skill to have in communications. I will always take spanish, but I don't know if it's the right thing to major in, specifically if I want to write sports journalism. Is there a better second major out there that I should look into? Maybe political science, writing, or something like that? Basically, I'm just looking for advice on a second major that will look good on a resume, standing beside a communications degree.

Cuse nerd, i will be a senior and also want to be a sportswriter. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but would you mind if I asked you some about your search process. I am going to apply to Syracuse, so it would be great if I could ask some questions. For your question, I think spanish would be great for journalism and help you in getting stories. Say you were a baseball writer, you could communicate with the Latino players in spanish and gain a better story and their respect.

Yeah, I don't mind at all if you want me to answer some of your questions! It took me a really long time to find a school that I thought would be right for both the writing aspect and the sports aspect. Either PM me or send me a message on AIM, my sn is Staciex0.
