communications

I've heard many times that NEU is excellent for Business, Engineering, etc. But how is the more liberal-artsy curriculum? I was thinking Communications, International Relations, English. Does it flop in these areas? Is NEU worth going to if I'm not interested in Business?

Northeastern Communications is the largest major in CAS. I honestly haven’t heard many great things about it. In fact, I heard that COMM has some of the school’s worst professors (including one who was fired midway through the semester). So, after being accepted, I switched into the Poli Sci major.

To be honest, if you’re going for Communications in Boston, it’s either BU or Emerson. Northeastern is a little more than iffy in this particular field.

Oh no… that’s not too good. It’s that bad? Would a degree in Communications from NEU mean anything in the job field?

But I’m assuming that their Poli Sci program is more than decent, then?

I have some friends in communications and they’ve mentioned that it’s not a tough major, but that it’s also not a great program.

My friends have stuck with the major and have gotten decent co-ops, and seem to be fine to graduate (although in this economy, we’ll see), so I think if you can figure out what to do, it should be fine. You can always start in comm and switch if you want to, or supplement with a major or double minor.

Thanks for the responses! I’m having a tough time deciding which school to go to. I’m deciding between BU and NEU, with a major in Communications as a big possibility. BU would cost a lot more than NEU, which makes NEU a more likely choice. But since I’ve found out NEU isn’t too good at comm, it makes the decision very difficult.

Go through and browse around. Also do this with BU and look at achievements by faculty. It’s also important that you contact the coop advisor that deals with communication majors and get some perspective on opportunities. Good Luck.
