After having stirred the pot with posting the Eating Club Task Force Report in another thread, hopefully this one will be more mundane...

For those who have been involved in CA, how does Move-In work?

The current schedule for 2010/11 shows that CA students "arrive on campus" on 9/4, but seems to imply that Move-In actually occurs the following weekend on 9/11 (inc. Parent oriented activities).

http://www.princeton.edu/welcometigers/docs/Class_of_2014_Travel_Calendar.pdf

However, this link would seem to imply that Move-In for CA is actually on 9/4:

Check In -*Facilities Info Center - Check In

Is 9/4 a day to unceremoniously "dump off" the student with some clothes and come back on 9/11 or does 9/4 serve as the Move-In date for CA?

I took this to mean that the drop off/move in day for students doing CA was 9/4. I don’t think they would expect you to come back one week later to move in.

Can someone else confirm this?

(First-hand experience from last year)
It depends if all of your roommates have arrived early also. If they have then you can move in for real. If they have not then you can’t choose rooms/beds until after CA so bring your stuff but don’t unpack. Your RCA will co-ordinate this.

^So If all of the other people assigned to the room are not there then my son should just drop all his stuff off in the room and wait to unpack until he returns from CA?

Basically you have said this is true, but I really don’t want to go down to the university two times and I want to be sure he can drop off everything (not just clothes…his computer, books etc.)

^ That would be my interpretation too. 9/4 would serve as Move-In for my D and I do not need to return the following weekend.

Just trying to plan travel, hotel, time-off, etc. We live 6+ hours away and I really do not want to make 2 trips in a week if I can avoid it. It will already be fun enough driving I-95 on Labor Day weekend :)

mansfieldpark, please confirm… and Thank You very much!

Last year I came in the morning, met my roommate (also a CA-er) and set up the room for real. However, I do have some friends whose roommates were not there yet. They still brought everything and just left it in the common room. The requirement for all roommates to be there is for fairness.

This day really does function as move in (and in fact those participating in CA will NOT be back the morning of the next move in day-you get a special breakfast instead!). You get your key, map, welcome packet, etc. Depending on when you get there you should have plenty of time to get everything into the room and even set up if everyone is there.

^Thanks for the clarification.
