Well, I’ve narrowed my possible early decision list down to 3 (Barnard, Wellesley, and Smith… yeah, I really like the women’s colleges :)) Barnard’s location in the city is both a plus and a minus for me-- I’m a city person at heart, and I love NYC. Yet I don’t want an uncohesive, NYU-type experience where there is no real campus life to speak of and everyone goes and does their own thing in the city to have fun. Is Barnard like this? Is there a sense of community at Barnard? Thanks for any input :)

I'd love to know. That's my main concern about Barnard at this point too (along with, to a lesser degree, campus being small and ungreen). Otherwise I love it.
Maybe I'll see you in the class of '10. I feel like we should say "oh ten" because just "ten" sounds icky.

Ugh, I know... "class of ten" sounds idiotic. I prefer "class of one oh".

If you want wonderful insight into Barnard (and one of the many reasons I am so very excited my daughter will be attending there this fall) look elsewhere on this thread for posts by Primefactor. She has been so very helpful and informative. Good luck in making your decision and in the application process!!!

And I CAN tell you that Barnard is VERY, VERY different from NYU....my d considered that school initially and, after attending a 3 week summer session there, decided it was NOT for her. She then found Barnard and fell in love with it. There is a very, very real sense of community there, from what I can see and have been told.

Thanks, churchmusicmom :) Good luck to your daughter! Maybe I'll see her when I overnight in the fall.
