I was wondering if it is possible to apply for financial aid for just one semester. I am currently on winter break and I was wondering if I could get aid for the next spring semester. Also, is there a way I can be compensated for the semester that just passed. I go to a California Community College. Thank you

Yes, you can file a fafsa for 2013-2014 on the fafsa.ed.gov website for spring semester. Whether you get aid or not will depend on the financial info for you and your family entered on the fafsa. Is there a reason you didn’t apply for aid before this past fall semester? How many semesters of college have you completed and do you have plans to attend college next fall semester? You can’t get aid retroactively for fall. You may be offered 2 semesters worth of direct loans though. How old are you?

^^^

I think that since the school year is still in progress, I think he CAN get aid (if qualified) for last semester. If he’s Pell eligible then he’d get Pell for both semesters.

I submitted a FAFSA last february for a 4 year school but I ended up going to a CC instead. I never updated my FAFSA to add the CC. Can i simply make corrections to the FAFSA i submitted last year for 2013-2014 and add the Community College I currently attend? I have completed one semester and I do plan on attending college next Fall.

Yes. You should do that as soon as possible.
You should file 2014-2015 FSFA for that.

I will file 2014-2015 FAFSA as soon as possible. Once I correct my 2013-2014 FAFSA, what will be the next step?

If your EFC is less than the school’s COA, your school will try to package the financial aid (what’s available) for you.

Your SAR should tell you if you’re eligible for Pell Grant or not.

You should also try to apply state’s aid (if not too late) too.

If your 2013-14 fafsa was updated with actual income/tax info last spring after 2012 taxes were filed, I don’t think you should update anything, just sign and submit it to the CC. What is the current status of your 2013-14 fafsa? Is it marked “have filed” or something similar regarding taxes?

All I corrected on my 2013-2014 FAFSA was I changed from “will file” to have filed, and added the school I currently attend.

So it seems to have been in an estimated state for income/taxes. Did you update the income/tax info to reflect what was actually on the 2012 tax return(s)?
