I’m going to Orange Coast College in the fall. Feel like I’m missing out not going to a university. I’m 22 getting out of the military so I feel this is my last chance to meet a lot of friends have a good social life again. I took community college courses back in 2011 and it was a bad experience. Nothing but underachieving people with no motivation. No one talked to each other. Nothing. It’s lonely. I’m really going to try and make an effort to get involved and I’m going to be participating in the engineering club and a couple other little humanitarian clubs. I got no social circle moving back home again. It sucks… I want to meet like minded people.
Join Circle K. It’s a pretty big thing there and you’ll find some community and also connect with many friends that go to other California schools too.
Talk to the college to see if there is a Veteran’s group on campus. That could connect you to people with similar experiences. Thank you for serving our country.
Does your CC have Phi Theta Beta? It’s a 2 year college honor society.
Honestly, I just finished at a CC before transferring and I didn’t have a great social life there. Mainly because I left right after class, because I didn’t want to be at the building. Basically it was my own fault. People are usually really friendly though, so don’t be afraid to just say hi!
