Community college credit

hey guys, i was thinking of taking some courses at a community college this summer (already enrolled at uw). I would save money, but was wondering if it is worth it. I know the equivalency guide shows that the classes would transfer, but do admissions frown upon it because classes at CC are easier? Or do they look at it the same? I don't want to get rejected just because I wanted to save a money.

What admissions? If you are already enrolled, I don’t see any problems at all.

By admissions, i mean applying to your major such as foster school of business or school of pharmacy. something along those lines

I don’t think it should matter. At Foster, one of the advisers explicitly mentioned that they make no distinctions btw. grades from community colleges and the UW. I would expect other schools to follow the same policy.

I know many people who took classes at community college over the summer while being enrolled at UW. It’s not all that uncommon.

It’s okay as long as you’ve verified that the classes transfer properly. I took Calculus, Microeconomics, and Managerial Accounting at community colleges the summer before I applied to Foster and I got in fine. Now I’m graduating in the spring w/o having experienced any problems.

thanks for the input guys. But i was also wondering about classes like biology or chemistry that require labs. The community college im looking at offers labs, but i just want to make sure those courses would transfer and are acceptable by their respective departments at uw.

hey, I was thinking about doing that as well! I’m in the same boat as you a few people a while back said that majors frown upon AP and community college credits, but community college will not only help me kick out some prerequisites but also because it is far closer than UW. But I have a question on how financial aid will get affected by this. Like will I still get enough financial aid to take between 10-15 credits worth of class at a community college?

I know a few people who did this. If it works for them but I don’t see why not.

You wouldn’t get rejected :)
