I’m an incoming freshman and I’ve taken a few CC courses. I passed them, but with C’s. If I transfer my credits to Cal Poly, will the grade transfer to my Cal Poly GPA? Or will only the credits transfer?

Only the credits will transfer, the grades will have no effect on your Cal Poly GPA. However, if those classes could be considered prerequistes for a Cal Poly class, then Cal Poly might say you need to have received a minimum grade in order for the units to count as the prerequisite class and not just elective units. But that is just my guess. I’ve never done this, so I really don’t know. Regardless, the letter grades you received in your CC classes will not carry over, only the credits transfer.

Actually your CP transcripts will show two GPA’s…One for Cal Poly and one for other colleges and then they total these two GPAs.

As Beach said, if you transfer the grade, CC grades will be calculated into your Cal Poly GPA and your overall college GPA.

Really? I didn’t know that. One of my friends was mad cause he said his CC grades don’t transfer to Cal Poly. Just the credits. He wanted the CC grades to boost his Cal Poly GPA.

The CC grades will never boost your “Cal Poly GPA”. The CP GPA is completely separate.

so will CC grades not be calculated into my GPA when I start at Cal Poly?

Cal Poly keeps track of two separate GPAs – a Cal Poly GPA, and a Higher Education GPA. Your CC grades, as well as grades transferred from any other university, will be included with you CP grades to calculate your Higher Education GPA. The Cal Poly GPA will include only grades from CP classes.
