community college during summer

i'm currently a freshman at usc

i was thinking about taking some courses over the summer at a community college, so i could save money and usc units

they wouldn't be major-specific courses, but generic requirements like econ or math. i looked up the articulation agreements and stuff already.

the only thing is... how is this actually done? do i apply to the CC normally (like with a regular new student app) and just take the courses? what's the process?

thanks

first, talk with your department advisor and make sure that the courses fit into your schedule and major (if you're a freshman engineering, then contact the engineering advisors in RTH 110 instead of your department)

Then, fill out and submit the pre-approval form in OASIS (<a href="http://www.usc.edu/oasis%5B/url%5D">www.usc.edu/oasis</a>) for the courses you want to transfer in. Make sure you get pre-approval before you register at the CC!

Then, I would contact the CC about the particular registration procedure there. If you are over 18 it should be really simple. Also, you want to make sure the course is going to be listed in the summer quarter/semester on the transcript.

You can take prereq courses like ECON 203/205, but not GE's or major requirements. Electives are OK, too.

Yup, after the pre-approval process, just apply at the CC and send in your transcript to the USC Articulation office after you're done with the course.
