If I go to a community college, can I still apply for scholarships in high school? Will I get the scholarships when I transfer after going to a junior college? If my junior college accepts AP, would all my AP credits transfer over?

Thanks.

Yes, you can still apply for outside scholarships if you are planning to attend a community college. You should also apply for any scholarships that that community college offers that you qualify for. I know students who have full tuition and fees scholarships at our local community college!

Some 4-year schools have specific scholarships for community colleges who transfer in. You also could be eligible for need-based financial aid, and general scholarships offered by the transfer-to schools. You will need to work with the transfer counselors at your community college so that you know what your options are. Here is a link to transfer scholarship information at one community college.
Each community college determines which AP credits can be used for credit and/or placement. The also usually accept CLEP credits. The CLEP exams are shorter than the AP exams and can be taken at any time during the year.

When you transfer, the 4-year school will determine which of your courses and which of your credits by exam can transfer into the new program. It is possible that not all of the AP and/or CLEP credits would transfer. To make the transfer process as painless as possible, you should look for A.A. or A.S. degree programs that have formal articulation agreements with a 4-year school. That way no matter how your credits were earned for the Associates degree, you will be guaranteed junior standing when you transfer.
