Community College in California

I just finished up my first year and a summer class at a community college in Southern California. I've gotten an A in every class imaginable and have 4.0 right now. If I keep a 4.0 next year, is it even possible to transfer into Yale, or any other Ivy? I know Yale accepts transfers (albeit few) but are those transfers from other universities, or can they be from a simple dumb-de-dumb community college?

Thanks.

I don’t think being from a community college means you can’t transfer to Yale, especially if there’s a good reason you went there rather than a university. But obviously the chances are still very, very slim.

There have been two CC posters who attended community college and transferred to Yale. Some years, there are no transfers from CCs, some years there are. In my anecdotal experience, transfers tend to be from other tops colleges or the military academies. BUT there are transfers from CCs. Do a search on transfers in the Yale forum and you’ll learn more.

^^^My D is a transfer to Y and her experience is similar.

fyi, Stanford appears to be more CC transfer friendly; two years ago about half of their transfers were CC or non-traditional students.

Thanks for the replies. I didn’t know that about Stanford. Are any of the other Ivies more likely to accept transfers? Like Brown, or Cornell?

Stanford is very good about transfers form community colleges in California. My sister had a part time jobin their admissions office an dheard they take those over people from the UC’s because they often have a better case for why Stanford has something that their college doesn’t have, whereas its harder to make that case form the UCs

Brown takes more transfers than Y, but not that many more. Cornell does take a fair amount more transfers. But why are you so concerned about Ivies, why aren’t you looking for a school that suits you, no matter what Athletic league they’re in??

Because for some odd reason this strange athletic league happens to coincide with amazing schools :)
