Hello, so I’ve been in a unique situation and its been stressful for me making a lot of decisions. I moved to the US senior year, and at the start, it was said that I will take high school two years due to graduation requirements(4 history courses). I agreed as i thought it would be beneficial for me to settle down here, and get a good gpa, as I had a bad one before. Unfortunately some circumstances happened and my current GPA is 3.1. Suddenly this summer, my dad’s job moved to a different country and we almost moved, but eventually we didn’t. Before the school year ended I discussed with my counselor to take the remaining two courses over the summer, one by one(completing one by next week) in case I move, so I can have a diploma. I was against that idea anyway, but now since i have one course remaining, and my counselor keeps suggesting i go to a cc instead I’m not sure what to do.
Honestly I want to continue high school and continue to my final year smoothly, as I really feel like I can improve my gpa. I’m aware that community colleges offer college level courses which would be beneficial when transferring but It’s just too much to start college out of the blue; what do you think?
Will you only be taking one class regardless - whether it be in the summer or in the fall? Or are there additional classes you wish to take you wouldn’t have been because you wanted to get your diploma ASAP?
In the summer now, I’m finishing one class and likely won’t be taking the second course(unless I decide to go to community college) . I didn’t want to get my diploma, ASAP, many people want me to however. I just want to finish smoothly, at least until I get into a decent 4 year college. That’s why I don’t want to take the community college route, then transferring. I just want to know if I’ll have huge disadvantages. What do you think?
I’m a little confused as to the requirements for you to graduate. Upon completion of this course you are taking right now, what else must be done to receive a diploma?
If you chose not to attend CC and to continue with high school this fall, how many classes would you be taking in the fall and winter at high school, and what would they be if you’re so close to graduation as is?
You can’t earn your high school diploma until you finish the required courses, so I’d enroll in the high school. It’s free and you can take a full schedule of classes. Students are allowed to attend high school until they’re 21 in many states, so there’s no reason to finish at a community college. Your GC shouldn’t be pushing you to do that if it’s not what you want. Have your parents set up a meeting with the guidance counselor and complete the enrollment forms so you can make your schedule.
