<p>I teach at a community college and we are not required to publish (at mine anyway). It’s great if we get something published, but it is not required to be successful. A lot more time can be dedicated to what a person is teaching if they are not worried about publishing (or perishing).</p>
<p>Also, many community colleges are open admissions, so in addition to some bright students and non-traditional students, there are some very low ability students. Because of the range of abilities (and length of time students may have been away from the classroom) teachers are forced to teach a little differently.
