Community College Qs

So I'm planning on dropping out of my CSU to go to a CC, so I can apply for a UC.

I was wondering does the CC I go to affect or matter much? Do certain CCs have better chances then others?

Also, is it better to go to a quarter or semester college or does it not really matter.

Finally can I be enrolled at more than one CC in the same semester/quarter?
(If so, do they have to be matching terms? Like enrolled at 2 CCs, one on a quarter system and the other on a semester system)

THanks

the only CC’s that can theoretically give you better chances are the ones that have TAP honors programs if you want to go to UCLA, or the ones that offer the pre-requisites for your major.

otherwise, the CC you attend is arbitrary

“Finally can I be enrolled at more than one CC in the same semester/quarter?”

Yes you can and they don’t have to be matching terms. As a matter of fact, I’m enrolled in two CC’s, one is quarter the other a semester college.

I mean in looking at a CCC as 0rganicGreenTea said look for one with UCLA tap program and if you qualify Berkeley’s Tap if you want to go there.

Check assist.org
and see which CCC have the most pre-reqs articulation with your school so you can do as many of your major classes.

Check the CCC to see what pre-reqs the enforce for college level English and math class too.

Also check how hard it is to get classes at that CCC too. As at my main CCC classes are difficult to get, but my other one I was able to get all my classes I wanted my first semester there.

@Johnny

When you say main CCC, on your application how would you say which school you attended? Is your main cc the one you are currently taking the most units at?

Also to complete my IGETC can it be from multiple schools? I was looking at the IGETC classes at each of the CCs, and some of the courses differed. I’d rather take some courses for one of the IGETC courses at one CC over the other.
So I just wanted to know if that would be ok.

sadfish- I know for my CCC you can do that, when you submit your transcript request you check off the IGETC certification box and then they have a “Pass Along” box you can check and then put the other CCC you attended.

On the UC app it asks between what dates have you attended this CCC and I just listed both CCC. My main CCC is the one I’ve been at the longest and am taking more classes at right now.

As Jane says her CCC has that option it more depends on who certifies IGETC as my CCC you fill out the paper work in the transcripts office, but the transfer center handles the certification at my CCC of IGETC.

I’m taking courses to fill my IGETC at 2 CCC’s. The transfer center at my CCC just told me to send my transcripts over from the other CCC so they can certify my IGETC. It’s very common to attended more then one CCC. Just be sure to watch the final schedules at different CCC’s as you don’t want any of your classes to have a final at the same time.

Certain CCs actually have higher, statistically significant, admission rates than others. If you have the option of going wherever you wanted, I would look for the school with the highest admissions rate for your major.

So how do units transfer from semester to quarter? My CSU is a semester quarter. But the CC I’m planning to attend is a semester too. However, the 2nd CC I plan to attend is a quarter system.

So I was just wondering how it’ll transfer, especially if I need to take 30 semester units at a CC to be counted as a CC student on my app.

To convert semester units to quarter units you multiply it by 1.5. So 4 semester units equals to 4 x 1.5 = 6.

You don’t transfer the classes really, you just send over your transcripts and they’re used to check that you’ve met the prereqs to enroll in classes. They don’t directly transfer; for instance, class X at your CSU does not get turned into class Y at your CC. When your transfer to a UC, you just send them both transcripts.

If I’m understanding correctly, if I took Music 1A at my CSU and then went to a CC, my Music 1A unit wouldn’t convert to Music1A at a CC? But rather just fulfill the requirement of taking it?

And for the IGETC, if I’m applying to a UC from a Semester CC, am I allowed to complete an IGETC from a Quarterly CC?

I’m just a little confused, I know you have to take 30 units at a CC to be considered a CC student when applying, but can they be from different CCs or do they have to be 30 from one specific CC?

You need 30 from the same CC, to be considered as a CC student.

Do these 30 units have to be one semester after another? Or will the classes I took in summer and during high school count to this total.

I’m not sure, but I was under the impression that you have to be at the CC for 2 quarters or 2 semesters to be considered a CC student.

I don’t know about IGETC issues. Talk to someone at your CC, they’re more friendly than you imagine, and more knowledgeable than most of us by a mile.

slow-mo, see if u can find info on their website about CC requirements:
[University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer/tr_adm_reqs.html)

So if I somehow took 90 units total, I would be eligible to xfer to the UC right?
