Community College Ratings and Answers!

Hey! Job for the current CCC students and answers for the new ccc school decisions. For those who are at a CCC currently or transfered already, may you please list your school and what you would give it in terms of your difficulty, 1 being the hardest - 10 being the easiest. Also, please tell us your cumulative UC transferable GPA at the moment and if you graduated, please tell us which schools you got accepted to and how much prereq's you completed. Thanks!

Well, I've been to 2 CC's so I can give some analysis. For math and science,

DeAnza-2
Gavilan-5

My CC gpa, 3.9. I got into all UCs and finished 90% prereq before applying

I went to

Grossmont
Cuyamaca
Mesa
Miramar
City
MiraCosta

I would rate them all about a 8 on ease. Mesa maybe a 6/7 solely for the lame parking they had when i went there.

I had a 3.54 and transfered to UCLA in 06. I had 5 more preqs to complete but i was a math major.

Lets get more ratings coming!

I've only been to one CC so I can't really compare it to anything but I'll just give a bit of my experience with it.

College of the Desert

I've got a 3.85, which should be a 4.0. I started school while on active duty and my schedule forced me to miss the final on one of my classes. I only bring this up for those of you concerned about ease. Most classes were pretty easy, the toughest was probably Statistics and one of my English classes. They have some classes online which was convenient, but the quality of the online courses is all over the place.

Glendale Community College

4.0 GPA, UC and overall.

It's hard to rate the difficulty because I had both sides of the spectrum - I had a ridiculously easy History of Rock class and a crazy difficult Pol Sci 102 class. But on average, I'd say maybe 6. (I'd give it maybe an 8, but I took a lot of "hard" classes - econ, pol sci, business, etc - and not a lot of "filler" ones.)

Palomar College

Applying this fall with a 3.54 GPA

6/10 on the difficulty scale. The classes overall aren't terribly difficult, however none of them were "gimmes" by any stretch of the imagination. I took a number of online classes all of which I found to be well structured as well.

Moorpark Community College

Transfer GPA: 3.72, applying this Fall

I would say difficulty level is about a 7, its hard to sum up the whole experience there into one number because the levels of difficulty in classes really depends on the teachers. The campus is pretty nice, all classes are a nice distance away from eachother so you aren't out of breath by the time you get to your second class of the day. Overall, it's been a good experience as far as school goes, I definetely wouldn't go there if you wanted your CCC experience to be a social one, this is my 3rd semester and I can still say I havn't met one person that has become my friend. I think that a lot of kids from the high schools around there go and have friends that are already estabslished so I think it doesn't have any value as far as "college life" unless you're going with a group of people, (but I guess that's what transfering to a big university is for). Overall, education there is a great one and I have no real complaints about that part of it.

this is really dependent on the student and not the community college. If the student excels in one subject area, then of course, they're going to do good in that area. I know people who do exceptionally well in math and science courses but find it rather difficult to write a short answer response in another class, and very much vice versa

Yeah, I have to agree that these ratings are all totally subjective and has no bearing on the actual difficulty of the college as a whole.

besides if you think community college is hard, then you must think students at a UC are from another world then considering the courses they take and the amount of time they dedicate to studying

Again, I have to agree. It might actually be smart to take some hard teachers or a rigorous course load just to prepare you for what is to come when you transfer to a UC where things will be a lot more challenging.

Isn't this what Ratemyprofessors is for?

Well in this thread, we are talking about the school in general.

Again, it varies from school to school depending on what professors you take. I doubt you'll ever get a clear consensus on the difficulty of a community college because everyone takes different professors.

Golden West College - 9
Orange Coast College - 9
Coastline Community College - 7
Fullerton College - 7 (1 for the horrible parking)

Transfer GPA: 3.72

lol, using your logic, we can't have a clear consensus on the difficulty of ANY school because it "varies between professors".

i contend the best way to measure a community college is by the number of people it transfers to a school. this also would judge the difficulty, because with large amounts of people transferring to top-tier schools, the difficulty is harder because of competition among one another.

Its all about statistics guys.

You don't need to be a genius to know that I meant community colleges. I think it's heavily subjective to think that just because a school sends a large number of students to a certain school that it is more difficult.

Large amount of people transferring to top tier schools usually means the school has enough resources to provide to the student so that they are able to transfer. If you check some community colleges, they don't have enough resources like classes open or the right courses transferrable that allow a student to be a better candidate for admission
