Community College to Great University

Just did some research, all the schools except for Vandy, Emory, Cornell, and CMU superscore. I weeded out a lot of the ACT composite-only schools in my preliminary search.

The good thing is all the other ones besides those four will accept the superscored ACT. So the remaining schools will just see 31/3.95. Am I pretty much good besides those four schools?

Also Billcsho, I took plenty of challenging courses (i.e., bio I & II, chem I & II, advanced psychology courses, honors courses, and Calc I & II)

My top picks are NYU, USC, Vassar, Grinnell, Hamilton, and Wesleyan (heck, they don’t even look at the ACT/SAT). Do you guys think I will get into at least one of these schools, that is all I really need to be happy with where I go.

BUMPITY-BUMP-BUMP!

BUMPPPPP!

Opinions people, plz?

Also, expensive test prep is not the only way to get a high score. You can get high scores by spending downwards of 50 dollars, so you don’t have any excuses. Also, because transfer admissions is even more competitive than freshman, I would say reach for everything.

Very true about transfer admission being more competitive, so what would ordinarily be a match is now a reach. Also, yeah if you want to get above 30 and you’re an average joe like me, you’re going to need tutoring haha. I’ve taken it 5 times and never broke 28. If I were to raise it, I would need people who are experts are cracking these tests.

After looking at some responses my main problem seems to be my test scores so places like Wake Forest, Brandeis, Wesleyan, Bowdoin would be my strongest bets considering they don’t require standardized tests for admission although, I only expect to get into one of them realistically. Also, NYU would certainly be a likely admittance because their transfer acceptance rate is like freaking 30% and they don’t require standardized test scores for transfer applications if you have completed a year of college (which i have) meaning they would only see the 3.95. Secondly, I would be applying to CAS which a lot less selective than Stern and Tisch, thirdly, they have started a recent initiative to recruit community college students (to me, that is odd but I’ll take it, lol), and fourthly, they tend to prefer geographic and ethnic diversity, which I am both strong in (you have to remember that a LOT of people from NYC and northerners apply to the place). I would say at the very least that NYU is a low match/high safety. Does anybody honestly disagree with that?

More opinions plz?

BUMP!!!

Bump

I don’t think Colgate superscores the ACT… although I don’t know if the rules are different for transfer students

You’re right, Colgate is the only one on the list that does not superscore. Thanks for the catch.

Since you will be trying to transfer in, it will be much harder to get in. None of these schools are high matches for transfer students.

Have you checked out the finances? If you are struggling to afford CC, there is a possibility that if you get into these colleges, you wouldn’t be able to pay. Transfer students get much less aid. Have you considered trying to transfer to your state school? This is not to say you aren’t smart, but you should try to have a back up plan financially :)

Of course, thanks for the concern. That’s very sweet of you. The only reason I have been able to consider schools now is I’m finally being declared as a financial “independent” so my FAFSA will skyrocket when I transfer. It’s a long story and I have thought of a back-up, the University of Florida which is my state’s flagship but too overpopulated for comfort. Yeah, transfer is pretty rough but I think I will get into at least one of my choices on the list.

I known multiple people, 3, who have gotten into WFU with a 3.85+ from my current institution, no test scores (because Wake doesn’t ask for them), and so-so extracurriculars. Also, a lot of people on this thread seem to feel WFU is a match for me.

I feel as if I apply to all of these places, getting into one would be a reasonable thing to bet on. What do you think?

I think it’s highly unlikely that you don’t get into at least two of these schools. Just check their policies on aid for transfer students.

Already did it, haha. I’ve been doing research on these schools for days.
