Community College to Med school

Hi, I'm currently a 17 year old male in my last year of highschool. Next year i'm going to a community college due to the fact that it totally screwed up my first two years of highschool in this stupid "i don't care about anything" stage I went through. I don't meet the requirements of any 4 year college. Basically I'm a pathetic loser who didn't realize school was important till my junior year in highschool. I screwed up big time, which is one a CC is my only option.

I'm currently going to go into psychiatry, which is my main goal. Mental illnesses is my biggest interest and i'm taking a college level psychology course now and I love it!

I did tons of research on pre-med school and stuff, and i know I have to take all the pre-med classes in a university so it looks good, such as bio, chem, calc, all that good stuff. Now the part that I couldn't find any information on, is what classes should I take in community college?

and how am i suppose to fit Biology, Chem, Physics, Calc, Organic chem, and biochem, all in 2 years at a university. I do tons of of research on college and classes, I'm just confused on what classes I should take at a community college, and I could also use some advice on what all the pre-med classes are incase i've missed some, and how do fit them all into two years of college at a university.

All help and advice is appreciated, thank you so much!

Take your math classes, psych, sociology, English, plus any general education classes your probable 4 year college requires for graduation at the CC.

You could also take gen chem and possibly physics.

You could take Bio–but ONLY if you plan to take several upper level bio classes at the 4 year.

Take OChem and Biochem for your 4 year college.

Plan on delaying your application to med school until after you graduate so that you have 2 full years of grades at your 4 year to show to adcomms. This means you will have 1 gap year --so makes plans to use that time intelligently.

I may not have the best self esteem but i feel like med school is way out of my league. Top of the line geniuses go to Med school and I feel like I wouldn’t stand a chance. I wasn’t an A student to begin with in High school, I have no idea how I’ll do it in college for that matter although i will try my best of course.

I’m so nervous and confused on what to do, and don’t forget stressed. I just want to take as many pre-med classes as I can at the University. I’m just not sure how you guys fit them in only two years.

Med school admission doesn’t require genius, just some basic smarts, lots and lots of very hard work and a superb work ethic.

Most applicants do not complete all their pre-reqs in 2 years. With the upcoming changes to MCAT and the additional required classes, pre-reqs now take a minimum of 2.5-3 years. (5 semesters of chem.)

~~~~
If you aren’t sure, start slow. Don’t overload yourself with tons of tough classes.
Work on improving your study skills. It takes time and effort to earn good grades. Plan to spend ~3 hours of study and preparation for each 1 hour of lecture.
Make sure you attend all classes, including any recitations and study sessions. Make any missed work ASAP.
Don’t procrastinate on doing homework or assignments. Try to do homework as soon as it’s assigned. (So if you have trouble, you have time to get help.)
If feel like you don’t understand the material, get help right away. Most CCs have a free tutoring center–use it. If your instructor holds office hours–go to them.
Well, you’re not going to fit them all into the last 2 years. Your last 2 years will have your upper division courses for your major. You will need to take some of your premed prereqs during your 2 years at the CC.
As suggested above, for your first 2 years, you can take Bio, Gen Chem, Psych, Calc, and Physics along with Frosh Comp and any other lower division courses for your major. What will your major be? Psychology?
then when you transfer, you can take OChem, Bio Chem, maybe another Bio (Genetics?), and your upper division courses.
One concern is that since you “didn’t care” during your first two years of high school, you may not have a good foundation. If so, you may need to spend 5-6 semesters at a CC instead of just 4. You may need some sub-100 courses to get yourself really ready for college.
