Community College to Top Colleges

Let's say I have a 3.7 GPA at a community college with 50 credits after 1.5 years of being there, will transfer with 65 credits. I have a 4.0 in my major. The down side is that I had a 2.0 GPA in high school. I am also Puerto Rican and Male.

Just based on that info with good EC and rec's what would you say the chances are that one could transfer to schools such as

Johns Hopkins
Brown
Cornell
USC
Dartmouth
Emory
NYU

Do you think theres no chance at all? Little chance? Moderate chance?

A 3.7 is an A- average and may fall into the “good enough” category to merit applying to the schools you listed above. It might also depend on the degree program you plan to enter: for example, school’s like vetted URM’s entering STEM programs. Regardless, since they’re all private, I believe you have a statistical chance of getting into at least one. Good luck!

The Ivies and JHU are extreme reaches. For USC, Emory, and NYU you have a fair chance, as long as you aren’t applying to Stern at NYU.

Just a heads-up, though: NYU is extremely stingy.
