hey! this is my first post on this site but im hoping to transfer from my cc to ucla or any other uc chances?

my gpa at the end of fall will be a 3.57 BUT my main concern is that i dont know if i should transfer as an ANTHROPOLOGY BA or PHILOSOPHY, i have pre reqs done for both, its too late for me to do tap so i wont be tap certified but i will be igetc certified! thank you

Anthropology (B.A) had 3.57 avg gpa for those accepted.
Philosophy had 3.54 avg gpa for those accepted.

The margin is pretty razor thin, so it’s really up to what you and what you’re interested in more.

For TAP in my ccc, we had to take 4 honors courses which took well over 2 semesters. However, it is theoretically possible to do all these courses at spring. It doesn’t hurt to ask though, but I’m pretty sure they won’t let you in at this point.

Hmmm close one. You’re definitely in at UCLA with either major, but Cal philosophy has been more competitive lately. The average admitted GPA is around a 3.7-3.75 according to UC Statfinder.

Regardless of what major you apply into, you should consider how your personal statements will reflect your interest in the major. That is, if you prefer anthro, you should compose your essays with more of an anthropological focus, as if to show how you have a personal connection with what you study.

Basically, if you can pull off a good personal statement, I would say you’re in at both.

my major gpa would be higher in philosophy compared to anthro though. i have a 4.0 major gpa in philosophy thus far compared to a 3.25 in anthro however philosophy is impacted in ucla and anthro isnt, any idea on which major is better?

theres another problem too >< sorry that i keep finding this in parts BUT my community college only offers 2 of the 4 classes needed to be a philosophy major therefore…would anthro be better :)))) sorry! this must be extremely annoying

Philosophy isn’t an impacted major at UCLA. Also, you could always change your major to Anthro since both are not impacted.

I went to orientation a few months ago and I saw first hand…a girl was a Philosophy major with 3 pre-reqs of Anthro completed. She went to the Anthro dept, they looked at her DPR and granted the major change. Simple as that!

If they aren’t offered at your CC, you don’t need to take them. None of the prereqs for Berkeley philosophy were offered at my CC and several people who applied for philosophy were accepted into Berkeley. As long as you take the ones offered at your CC, you should be fine. Just remember in January, when you update your myBerkeley app to write in that those classes weren’t offered.

Don’t listen to people when they say “if a class isn’t offered at your CC then it doesn’t count against you.” That’s a filthy lie!

Example:
You have a 3.57 2/4 pre-reqs completed at your CC.
I have a 3.57 2/4 pre reqs completed at my CC and then took the other 2 at a different CC. I’ll get in before you would =P
