Community College to UC transfer question!!!

I have a question about transferring to UC from CC.

I will apply this FALL 2013 and I am wondering if UCs care about me NOT being a FULL TIME student. I always am short of 3~4 units of getting 12 units (full time) and not get considered as FULL TIME.

I was full time ONCE in 3 years and that was last spring semester.

Do UCs really care and have lower chance of getting accepted if i am part time student?

No. As long as you have minimum of 60 transferable units. You should have no problem.

Are you working full-time? If so, make sure to mention that as the reason you aren’t full time. Although it won’t be a huge factor in their decision, it is important to mention why you weren’t full-time.

I am not a full-time worker… I don’t even do club work or anything like that… Its just that I can’t get classes. I seriously dont know what to do…

The ONLY excuse i can give is that my transportation is limited. No car, my parents are all working…

Ok, well in that case, don’t fret, atleast for the majority of UC’s. Do you plan to TAG? If so, some of the schools such as Davis require you to be a full-time student.

I went to a community college where getting my classes was really tough. But with every semester’s period of signing up for classes be really prepared. Have classes picked well before the date/time of registration. For every selection of classes always have a select few number of classes as backups that you sign up for. Worst-case scenario, you drop the classes and get your money back. If you need additional help or advising, PM me.

I am not doing TAG. I am applying to Bus/econ or Business Admin or Econ . Any that meets my pre-requisites im applying. My top choices are UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCR.

I just dont know what to do… I can look for internship but it’s really hard…

Finding a Fall internship might be difficult at this point, but maybe a part-time job? In your first post, you said you are usually 3/4 units short of being full-time at 12 units which means you have around 8 or 9 units. If you don’t bring up some legitimate excuse for taking only this many units it can put your admission to the upper tier schools like UCB and UCLA in jeopardy. They look for students who can manage full-time loads. They won’t sympathize if you say that you couldn’t get classes. There are a couple quarter-system schools in Nor-Cal (Foothill College and DeAnza College) at which you can sign up for some online courses. Even if you aren’t in the area, you can manage through online office hours and such.

Is it really THAT important? I have a 3.94 GPA and if I have a good Personal Statement will it affect me that much to a point they will not accept me because of not being a full time?

What if I get an internship or volunteer?

Anything that shows your time is being occupied with things other than school will be very helpful in showing the school that you have a balanced schedule and are not just taking less courses for good grades. A good personal statement can definitely put you over the top.

Thank you!

I was really worried about it when I checked that I only have 9 units for FALL.

I JUST got a phone call from T-mobile retail store saying that I got an internship there RIGHT in front of my school!!!

I hope that this will help me!!!

Thank you for your help~

Congrats, hope it all works out for you!
