Community College transfer to 4-year school? What GPA is needed?

Hello. I’m currently enrolled in community college and am planning to transfer after earning my associates in mechanical engineering. As of now, I have a 3.9 GPA but I’m relatively certain this will drop by at least .2 points by the time I want to apply. I have a 2080 on the SAT but I’m taking it again in June. I plan to study for the SAT for a couple weeks after the semester is over even though I realize that this isn’t the biggest factor in transfer admissions. My high school transcript could be quite bad. I had a 3.8 at the end of junior year, but senior year was awful and I didn’t even care to check my grades at the time so I don’t know what I ended up with. I’m guessing that I graduated HS with something around a 3.0.
The University of Maryland College Park recommends that you have a 3.0 if you want to apply for transfer. My feeling is that a 3.2 will give you a reasonable chance based on the small amount of evidence that I have accumulated. I would not like to go to UMD or UMBC but either of those schools are where I plan to go if I can’t get in anywhere else (if I even get in to these schools). I would like to be able to consider RPI, Stevens Institute of Technology, and UT Austin if those schools seem feasible. So, are these schools feasible? Also, what are my chances of getting into schools like UMD or UMBC with a 3.7 GPA?

Where are you studying right now? If you are at a MD CC, there should be a clear pathway to UMD, UMBC, and the other state Us. Go meet with the Transfer Counselor, and ask about this. They also should have some advice for OOS transfers and transfers into private Us.

If you are in a different state, go sit down with the transfer counselor at your CC. They are the experts.
