I am deciding between going to a california community college and cal poly SLO and UCSB for electrical engineering. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how difficult it would be to get into cal poly SLO from a california community college? How about other UC’s?
It is easier to get into SLO as a freshman. They admitted just 1400 transfers last year - For Engineering, Freshman admit rate is about 23% vs about 10% for transfers. They also offer some preference to Cuesta students, suggesting even lower chances for other CCs.

The UCs that participate in TAG (transfer guarantee) are more predictable but, meeting the 3.5± GPA threshold is no easy feat. The GPA threshold varies by UC and major. Also, UCSD, UCB and UCLA don’t participate.
If you got into both and can afford to attend, going straight into a 4 year of this caliber is probably your best/most direct route to a very credible degree.
If you can’t afford it, a CC can offer a viable option but, you may not make it back into SLO or UCSB as a JR. (which is OK, because there are many other schools that offer degrees in this field.)
