I am not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I had a question.

If my daughter takes a 5 unit course at a community college in CA, how many units is that in high school? I heard it was three fold, so it would count for 15 high school credits and only 5 college credits, but I am not sure.

the rule of thumb usually is that one semester course (three hours) at college equals an entire academic year at high school. So a five credit hour class would roughly be a class and two thirds of high school credit.

it all depends on who you ask. In the state of Colorado (where my son attends school) 3 college credits = 1 semester of high school credit. I don't like that, but that was established by the Colorado Department of Education when they passed the rules on the Post Secondary Education Options.

Personally, i would grant 1 year of high school credit for 1 semester of community college -- but you might check and see how the local public school handles it.

The answer probably depends on the guidelines of each individual college. She should check directly with colleges where she's considering applying.

CA-a one semester cc class equals one year of high school, basically it is "double credited". That with the fact that the class is automatically weighted at our school with no AP test to pass makes taking them a no brainer...our hs also offers the cc class at the high school during a zero period..sweet!
