IF you plan to go to a college that is not one of your fine state schools, take the AP test. At all the infosessions I have gone to, adcoms say to take AP and not CC classes (if possible). AP is standardized across the nation and all colleges will know how good a 1,2,3,4,or5 is. Not all colleges will know how strong an A in your CC is.

Your school doesn't have a dual enrollment program where CC classes are free?

I think it's a good idea, but maybe you should take Calc 1 over the summer instead of the spring.

I really think CC classes are a good idea. unless the money is a major problem you list of pros heavily outway your cons.

and venkater, a couple of the admissions reps of LACS I've talked to have said they actually look at CC courses over AP.

Different colleges may have different views of CC vs AP. The infosessions for college I have been to said AP/IB>CC. The best thing would be to call each college and ask them what they think. At my school, last year we had 88 5s and 3 4s for the BC test, so a college may recomend to take BC over a CC class, but if your school has very few 5s and doesnt have the best scores, maybe you should take the CC class.
