I made a thread in the Search/Selection forum
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/455920-my-dilemma.html#post1059723116

and got this response

"I'd do a gap year, and during that year, get a SSN.

Community college credits (especially the science and math ones) can be iffy for med school admissions.

I'd say that it's well worth it to wait a year so that you can get financial aid at a 4-year university."

true?

It's good advice. Do not attempt to use your "new name" to fool colleges into thinking that you haven't yet taken the SATs.

mmm also sound advice, thank you. The only problem i have is i was consdiering taking a gap year between a MD/PhD program and UG Ed. would it be ok to take 2 gap years? people wonder whether they should take 1. if i had to choose between now or later, id save it. The thing is i already know im gonna be like 35 when i get my first job, i don't want to prolong it.

Advice anyone?

PS: still don't know whether Community College credits were legit with Med schools.

It's fine. Most MSTP's have taken a couple years between undergrad and college anyway.

And I believe I affirmed the advice given to you by the poster you quoted.

o, i thought you were saying that a gap year was good advice. wasn't sure about the CC problem, but i guess that is also a yes, thanks alot.

how about if it is free to go to the community college? are there any courses i can get out of the way there that wouldn't matter to MSTPs?

Isn't the whole point of the gap year to qualify for financial aid?

at Upitt, yea, and if it doesn't hurt my chances for aid to go to a community college for a semester or a year then id do it (does it hurt my chances?)

I'd advise spending four years at your eventual university, not least because transferring environments can be very disruptive, you lose a lot of opportunities for organizations and EC's, etc. Plus coursework from a CC will be considered lightweight, and if you screw it up you're really in trouble.

But if you must, then at least avoid science, math, and English courses while you're there.

great advise, thanks alot bdm, im thinking to take a gap semester. just have to figure out what to do during it.... so far all i can come up with is volunteer a ton at a hospital.

Not a bad option. Also not bad: working (any job, waitering, etc.), international travel, etc. All good options.
