Community College

Well I'm extremely scared going to a community college. People at school consider it as a school for "dumb people." How do you guys view community college and would you go to the school? But it can't be your last option....

I don't view it as a school for dumb people, if anything it's for smart people, you are going there because you really want an education, if you didn't you wouldn't bother continuing school at all! It just means that for some reason you couldn't jump right into college (might not even be because you weren't that great of a student in high school)

Besides, tons of people attend a community college and transfer later, even to top 20 universities!

I would go if I were in that situation, however I would consider taking time off, maybe traveling, but that is just me. Hell, I know people who didn't even go to college and are doing better now that most people will be after graduating from an ivy! (always remember Steve Jobs [not one of the people I know :P]).

You know, a teacher of mine recently sad, "The only reason kids go is to community college is that they are either too stupid to go anywhere else or don't have enough money." Well, I really resent that. I have thought numerous times about going to a community college. It is cheaper, and truth be told, the community college in my city is probably just as good as the college.

your teacher covered kids like you (re: "...don't have enough money").

he just didn't cuddle and pat you like you wanted to be.

After taking some classes there, I realized the stereotypical dumb lazy person is not an uncommon sight in most of the simple basic classes like music appreciation. But I'm taking calculus 2 right now, and for the most part people in my class are pretty intelligent and hard working. It mostly is dependent on why a person chooses to attend a community college. Some people simply cannot get into a 4 year school while others are doing it to save money or other legitimate reasons.

I think community college can be a good pathway to going to a four year university for certain people who need extra time/money before they apply. That being said, In my experience (5 cc classes), many of the people are less intelligent/hard working, especially in the intro/req classes.

ILIKEDICE: Interesting, someone sounds like they are a little bothered? Do I smell rejection syndrome?

My mother graduated from a community college last May. :D

I probably wouldn't go to a community college unless my family really didn't have anything to put toward my education. (Thankfully and somewhat ironically, we're not in that situation because Mom got an awesome job with her brand-new nursing degree.) I don't really want to be a commuter student; I want to experience living with other people my own age in a place other than the town I've lived in for seventeen years and eight months. I want to go to a four-year college and live on campus, but community colleges are a great option for those who want or need it.

I am resisting my parents' wishes for me to go to community college (backwards, isn't it?) My community college is a really crappy one that doesn't have any math beyond basic calculus, it also has no foreign languages. My parents tell me I should go to community college because I'll get homesick if I'm not home all the time. Right...

I feel bad for people going to CC, but at the same time I want them to realize that they put themselves in that situation because they didn't study hard and just partied throughout high school.
Also, I want them to realize that ya although people are nerdy they will get into good colleges and that they shouldn't just put them down.

^That's so stereotypical.

Some of the smartest, hardest working kids at my school are going to the nearby community college because it is cheap. My mom went to a community college. She then went on to a four year university to get her bachelor's degree and then later to graduate school to get a master's degree. She is not dumb or lazy. She went to a CC for financial reasons.
