In the Summer of 2010 (from June 28th to July 28th), DoSomething.org conducted the second Community Service and College Admissions Survey.
Admissions officers from 33 of the top 50 colleges and universities listed in US News & World Report: Best Colleges 2011 participated in this survey. All participants had to be a currently employed admissions officer responding on behalf of his or her college or university Links: http://www.dosomething.org/college-survey-pdf; if that doesn't work go here: Community Service and College Admissions Survey | Do Something

thank you for posting;

interesting in the fact that most on CC generally recommend AGAINST writing about community service in admissions essays…unless it’s a unique project, etc…

I would love to see this survey, but don’t want to risk being data-mined by filling out the form! Would you consider putting the results in a post?

^^hehe…or you could just make stuff up (like I did to register)…

If it matters to the student it’s important. If it’s check the box stuff…not so much.

You don’t need to take the survey to see the results. Just follow the second link. The pdf one apparently doesn’t work. I have belonged to dosomething.org for years and hardly get anything from them except scholarship notifications and articles of interest of kids who have done some really outstanding things. The kids who win their awards are not run of the mill but truly inspiring kids. Check out this article in the NYTimes for an example. http://parenting.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/22/when-a-child-moves-to-nepal/
