How important are community service and research in getting into Stanford? I have pretty good stats (4.4 w gpa) and I guess I have a hook of being born in Eastern Europe and speaking 4 languages fluently but I don't really have community service and I don't really know what to do for volunteer hours. I also don't know how to get in to do research, which is something everyone seems to talk about on CC. I plan on taking a class or two at a local community college this summer (im a junior) and I don't know what else to do academically. It can't take up a lot of time since I have soccer and tennis, but I'd appreciate some help into some ideas for what to do in these two areas. Thanks.

Re: community service.... This comes from the heart. What ways do you like to serve and get involved?

Re: research....my son didn't participate in anything even remotely research-like and he was accepted early action.

Stanford seems to seek out interesting and vibrant applicants. In what ways can you demonstrate that you this type of person?
