Do you guys have to write an essay after you're done with community service? My school makes us write one after we record our hours. But what I'm worried about is ALL of us BS it. We write made up crap. Will colleges be looking at these essays? o.o

My school doesn’t do that. That sounds pretty stupid to me

We just write 2 little paragraphs after each CS project…
like what we did as 1 paragraph, and what we gained from it.

Sounds like an internal thing to your particular school (mine does the same, however)–not something colleges would see or likely have any interest in.

There’s no point in writing one if colleges won’t look at it then. I don’t need to write a paper to prove that i gained something.

i gained something.

That’s the reason to write the essay. If you do hours just to get them done, then they weren’t worthwhile, and you only gained hours just to graduate. That’s why you write the essay. It’s to show that you got something out of it, because some people just do service to be done with it.

But still, almost everyone makes stuff up. So these essays aren’t really effective. These essays are trying to force someone to gain something from community service. That’s why people hate doing it (it’s not required in my school, but some do it anyway). If there were no essays involved, it’s more likely that someone will naturally like helping the community.

You don’t need to write them to prove that you gained something, but you do need to write them if you want the grade for it (unless your school handles it differently). I agree with Matt here–if you think about what you’ve done over the past months with community service, you’ll see it’s worthwhile.

Right now, I’m doing it so I can find some organization that I can truly love, and spend countless hours helping out… so I’m testing the waters out.

I have around 75 hours… I’m kinda hoping to get 100 this year though (I “whole” numbers that only have 0’s and 1’s in them… kinda like my bday (but the year). :P

It’s worthwhile, but we don’t need to prove it on a piece of paper.

I only volunteer for stuff that I like too. Even if it doesn’t give a lot of hours. Haha I wanna break 100 too, or maybe 150 :D

^ nice! this year, I started in January… so my “yearly” hours (9th grade) is really just half a year.

the rest of high school, I want to get at least 300 hours per year! so that’s over 1,000 hours of CS. wouldn’t that be AWESOME? (lot of dedication, love, and looks good… just as a bonus though)

Sigh Alas, I’m a junior and I don’t much time left to volunteer.
Lol WHOA 1000+ HOURS! xD That is an EPIC achievement. I will give you a big virtual trophy if you really got that :D

haha really? a BIG virtual trophy? AWESOME!!! :D
