Community service hour tracking?

I've been tracking most of my community service hours in Excel (for various reasons), but the thought occurred to me the other day: how do colleges verify that one really did perform the 1000 hours on one's applications? And that's an arbitrary number. :)

you should have the supervisor’s signature for each service performed. Then, at the end of your junior year (at least for us) you’d turn it in to the registrar to have it included in your transcript.

My school does not institute a similiar program so I guess it comes down to morals. Lying about community service is disgusting.

WaterTastesGood - Okay, I see. I’m not sure if our school does the same with community service and transcripts, but I’ll ask. Thanks!

hellUVAchance - I agree, which was why I was wondering how colleges would confirm it. While I don’t know anyone who’s actually fibbed yet, I’m sure it’s happened before.

I’m sure it has! Its easy to add an extra 0 onto your “library hours”! Haha

Yeah haha; it’s completely unethical though. I suppose in the grand scheme of things, that one difference won’t make someone be accepted, but imagine what it would be if the whole application was ridden with “little” lies like that! I saw a post here on CC about the things people have caught people doing on apps and it’s just so surprising.

Just lie :)
