Hey, I'm kinda new here and I find it very impossible to get good college info by searching through Google so I saw this site and thought it would be a great idea to ask you guys.

I will be participating in a program after my senior year of high school called City Year. It is a 10 month program where I will be doing a lot of community service (about 1,700 hours) which will bring my total to 2,000 hours of service. I believe that this is a great opportunity for character building and helping out in my community before I am off to college. So here's the question.

Are there any colleges that offer scholarships for a large amount of community service hours? If so how much?

I haven't heard of colleges giving scholarships based on community service hours alone, but that is part of the criteria for many outside scholarship programs, like Prudential Spirit of Community, Coca Cola, Walmart, etc. Have you looked into these? College-specific merit scholarships are often based on test scores and academics.

There are colleges that offer service scholarships while you're a student there. St John's in Queens has the Ozanam ($10,000) and St John Fisher in Rochester has Service Scholars (1/3 tuition + R&B). Having demonstrated such a commitment to community service could probably help you win a scholarship like that.
