Community Service

I have a couple questions about community service hours on the Common App. First of all, I have a couple questions about what would count. A couple times a week I help clean my school. I drive a handicapped kid to physical therapy appointments once a week and tutor him once a week. I've cooked for my church to help feed people. I've also volunteered at my local food bank. I'm fairly certain that the last two would count, but I'm a bit unsure about the first two.

Also, can I talk about my community service hours in the additional information section? And if I do, should I just say I have X amount and list ways I got those hours, or should I list the activities and say how many hours I got from each one?

Thank you!

All of the activities you mentioned are appropriate to include in your application. If you use the additional information section for this, don’t just recite the hours and facts. Be concise, but explanatory. Show how/why you are engaged rather than just giving dry facts.

Okay, thank you!

So, when I give information about how much time I’ve devoted to each thing, should I say that I spend X amount of time on this per week, or can I just say I’ve spent X amount on this activity over my total time involved?
