How many hours roughly are considered enough? And do colleges really care about people doing it with a club which they know that most people do it for the EC credits?

I don't think colleges are concerned so much about an applicant having "enough community service hours" as they are about the applicant demonstrating a passion for something. If you plan to paint yourself as someone whose passion is community service, then you can worry about having sufficient hours to back up such a portrayal. However, if you're really into music, or science, or theatre, then they'll want you to have spent lots of time and energy on that, and having little community service won't turn them off. (Of course, logging lots of community service hours in addition to your passion will help in the EC department.)
