I'd really like to get into more community service, and of course it's important for college (although that isn't my primary reason for getting into it). I'm curious though, what do colleges look for when it comes to community service. My city has a youth advisory council. Is that along the lines or something different? What really constitutes as "community service"?

A youth advisory council sounds more like an extra curricular. My idea of community service is working at a food shelter, raising money for a cause, collecting used clothes and toys, feeding the homeless, etc.

To add onto the question, does something like volunteering at a blood drive constitute at community service? It was only about 12 hours on a Saturday, but does is it still worth putting down?
