Community Service

Firstly, is community service and volunteering the same thing?

Secondly, How many hours (what is the range) of community service that would actually stand out at colleges?

I have alot of different places I got community service and I dont want to include all of them.

SO what is the amount of hours where admissions just say nice! and move on to the next criteria?

Stand out community service would be a function of accomplishment, not hours.

well even accomplishment needs hours. I think both come into account

Highlighting activities/hours where you show leadership is a good idea.

Community service hours are as commonplace as being on the Honor Roll. Only the few that develop or lead major volunteer efforts stand out. And then, only very few schools even care a lick about ECs or leadership potential.

If you’re targeting these types of schools, then whatever hour # you put won’t really matter unless you have the corresponding significant leadership/development role in that volunteer effort.

You know that most school districts require all graduates to have some number of volunteer hours right? That’s how common it is.
