don't fret man around 50% of the student body at nyu doesn't live in campus housing

really? that much?

yes. The reason being is that the dorms cost about as much (sometimes more) than an apt. would (with or without a roomate). I'm not sure about incoming freshman but all of my friends don't live in the dorms and have never done so, simply because living in an apt is much more comfortable. That being said, if your main objective is to meet people and network, you are going to have to try a little bit harder since NYU doesn't really have a centralized campus and you won't be living with your fellow classmates.

gonsenheim, your numbers are off. 90% of freshmen live in housing, and 70% of all undergrads.

Hey, I live in New Jersey (in jersey city, right off the hudson) and I will commute to NYU. I know like every freshman wants to dorm but I'm comfortable in commuting (plus that's $10,000 less a year for me). I always take the train to NYC and it's pretty quick. So, commuters, don't be discouraged! The only important thing is you're going to NYU!

Commuting from Jersey City is easy, but it's when you start going into like Middlesex and Monmouth Counties in NJ, CT, and LI that commuting sucks. If you live close enough, like somewhere in NYC, Jersey City, Bayone, Hoboken, Weehawken, etc, then you'll be alright. Almost anywhere else, it'll be a pain and you won't get to really know people.

I'm commuting from Monmouth County, NJ.... It takes me from 1:30 to 2:00 each way... but it really isn't that bad at all once I've gotten used to it.

What part? A lot of my family lives there.

incoming commuter students: might it be a good idea to state where you are from? never hurts to know another person in your area who's hacking out the same routes as you.

Matt-Staten Island

Is it possible to commute from San Francisco, CA???

(Oh... I forgot that I don't own a private jet, duh!)

Long Branch.

Oh ok, my cousins live in Asbury Park and Neptune.
