Commuting from home

Hey guys!

I was admitted to CAS, and saw my financial aid package. Thankfully, it covers most of tuition, and since I will be living at home (NYC resident), it will be a lot cheaper.

However, I looked here:

<a href="http://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/financialAid/documents/tuitiongeneral2011-03-25.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/financialAid/documents/tuitiongeneral2011-03-25.pdf</a></p>

and it says that a commuter student still has to pay around ~$1000 for room and board? I don't really get it...

NYU just puts in that number because they figure someone still has to pay for your meals and lodging nominally (most likely your parents) even when living at home. Now some of you can begin to appreciate what you have been getting “for free” from your folks.

Really, even as a commuter you have to eat and sleep somewhere. And they are giving you a very “ballpark” figure for various budget expenses, except for tuition and fees, which will likely be closest to the actual numbers that will come out for 2011-2012.

So, it is not an amount for you to pay but to budget into your expenses for academic year 2011-2012. Whew, right? Anything to decrease the costs (though your parents still pay for you to live at home. )
