Commuting Problems

Hmm, so it's my first year attending UCI as a compsci major, or more specifically computer game science major and I really can say that I enjoy UCI academically, at least for my first fall quarter. But as a commuter, college can be a bit of a struggle for me. I live in the SFV/LA area, which is about an hour to an hour and a half away from UCI, but on weekdays I live with my brother in Lake Forest (30mins away) from campus in order to save money from dorming. Every weekend I drive back to LA to spend time with family, hometown friends and boyfriend.

I suppose my issue is my lack of a connection at UCI among other students. It's actually quite lonely. The loneliness has gotten so bad that there are just days where I cry because I've never had this problem before. I've considered transferring, but the way the computer game science major is set up, I wouldn't be able to finish all my GEs within the first two years so it's either I sacrifice my major that I do enjoy in order to transfer to be less lonely. Ultimately, I would like to prove to myself that I can find my niche in college.

I guess my question is how can I be less lonely at college as a commuter? I already know to join clubs, I am apart of one (VGDC) and to talk to people in my classes. I'm not sure what I'm missing... :/

I assume that club meets once a week? And do you only socialize with them only when they meet up? It seems that you want that full college experience and joining a club isn’t cutting it; in which, I suggest joining a sorority. Not all sorority’s are party focus, there are academic focus greek groups, and etc; join the one you feel the most comfortable in.
