Hey guys, so I'm a freshman at Cal, and I'm currently living in the dorms, and I'm starting to think about what to do next year for housing. I was wondering if you guys think its feasible to commute from the Fremont area? Do a lot of people commute from that far away, or is it not possible?

I’m in the Fremont area, I commuted during summer sessions when I had big 6-8 hour no-break schedules.

Personally I’m not a big fan of it, and I prefer living on campus. Going by BART usually means building in 2 hours for the commute, given they’re not on strike that day. By car, it’s 40-90 minutes, depending on traffic. It’s a lot easier to be on campus, to be able to go to study groups or meetings, review sessions and clubs, etc without making it into a huge trip.

I mean, it’s do-able, just… not fun. And you lose a lot of time commuting that you could’ve spent studying or sleeping or whatever.

It all depends on what is important to you in your college experience. Having a commute beyond 10-15 minutes will take a toll on your social life, and your ability to attend school events, like midterm reviews, festivals, etc.

Sorry to hijack, but for those of us considering driving how is bad is parking?
