Commuting To Rutgers New Brunswick

I have an option of going to Rutger New Brunswick SAS or Rutgers Newark - Business School. I am not 100% sure what I am going to major in. Its either Microbiology, Business Management, or pharmaceutical management. I am interested in Rutgers New Brunswick because it offers more things. Here is my problem, I will be commuting. With the sky-rocketing gas price and the thought of staying in a car for almost two hours round tip, without counting the traffic problem, to Rutger NB discourages me a little. I am thinking of taking NJ transit, but I don't know how much it cost. Will there be a discount for College students? How much does the shuttle buses cost at rutgers? Does rutgers allow bikes? Do you think I should go to Newark or NB?? (btw-commuting to Rugters Newark takes about half an hour driving, nj transit an hour.)

Hmm, this is tough.

Is there a reason why you have not considered getting housing close to campus (financial? Inconvenience? Personal duties at home that you are obligated to?)?

I would say go to Newark just because it seems more convenient. If you don’t mind an hour ride, then perhaps NB. Or, you can stay at Newark for a year and do a campus transfer to attend NB sophomore year.

Rutgers does allow bikes, by the way. And I know that there are student discounts for monthly passes with NJ Transit – 25% off.

And the shuttle buses? I’m guessing you are talking about the “Rutgers buses” that run here on campus that take you from campus to campus, to Downtown New Brunswick and near the train station, right? Those are free.

I’m sorry if I didn’t answer your question fully =(, but hopefully some of the information above might be useful.

Thx MushaboomBlue for the info. The reason I am commuting and not dorming is because of family obligations and because my parents are fearful that I get hooked on to bad habits when I am at school. They think that at Rutgers I am gonna get addicted to weed, become an alcoholic, and return home to have a complete mental psychological emotional breakdown. All of that because one of my sibling who turn out that way after graduation.

Sorry about your sibling. Maybe they were having a hard time adjusting to school =(

Sure, there are people here who indulge in smoking pot and alcohol use heavily, but not all of us. If you find the right people (and trust me, you can) then you can avoid using it.

I know it might be hard to convince your parents about it, but anyway, I wish you the best in finding the solution that is best and convenient for you =)

Go to Newark. You’d save an hour a day just from commuting. Plus, if you go to New Brunswick you lose more time getting from campus to campus. I’ve heard you can walk to all your classes within the Newark campus too. You could always transfer your sophmore or junior year if you felt like it.

Is Newark Business School and NB business school different?? If it is what are the difference? If i go to Newark business school can I transfer to NB business school? I heard that at NB business school you need and A in Micro and and A in Macro and good grade in math to get accepted into that school. Does the samething apply to a transfer who may not get as good of a grade?

in your case i would go to newark then perhaps if things change you can easily transfer to NB in a year or two. A daily 2 hour commute is kind of ridiculous…
