Commuting vs. Dorming

I know i’m a little late on the topic, but im going to give it a go anyways!
I just started college, and im dorming about 3 hours away from my house. I had the choice between staying home and commuting to a school 45 minutes away or dorming here. I chose the latter, because i thought i was going to be free and independent.
At home i was already independent, i did my own laundry, made my food whenever needed, and all that. SO i thought i would have an advantage in dorming. Boy was i wrong, dorming does not mean independence, it’s simply a hassle (for me at least). i am sharing a dorm with 2 others, and now i am not only cleaning after myself, but after the others as well. I am not making my food anymore, i am eating whatever junk is handed to me in the dining halls. I have to walk down 4 flight of stairs to do my laundry, and to heat something up in the microwave. We have a private bathroom and it is still disgusting. I can only imagine what it is like for the communal showers. I don’t drink or smoke as well, and i can tell you this, college kids don’t know how to have fun without getting smacked, so for someone who doesn’t do any of that, i wouldn’t dorm, just because in order to go out and enjoy yourself with the majority of other student’s, you will need to be drink or smoke. If you are close to the school, even better, i honestly don’t believe you will miss out on a social life by commuting. The only frineds i made because i dormed are my roomates, and hallmates. Other then that all my other friends i met through class, and other activities.
My Final opinion: Commute!
