Commuting

It looks like when I go to college, for medical reasons I will have to commute (my parents will basically be moving with me to accommodate my needs, so we'll be living within 10 minutes or so of campus). I've always heard that so much of the college experience comes from living there and I'm worried that I'll be missing out, especially since I generally have a hard enough time making friends as it is.

Will I be missing out on a great experience if I commute?

I commuted last year and am living in off-campus housing w/ a bunch of students this year.

It’s a lot more fun living with other people. But, commuting isn’t totally awful. My dad was pretty cool and didn’t treat me like a high schooler… I didn’t have any curfew or whatever, it was mostly just “be respectful under my roof and you’re good.” Will you miss out on some stuff? Yes. I don’t think it’ll be that hard to make friends though, particularly if you have a car to get on campus. You can still join organizations and whatnot.
