Applied CE for both. I got into my top choice CSUs- SDSU for my major of interest, computer engineering, and SJSU for the alternate, undeclared freshman. In terms of success at the end of the road, which school would it be better in the end? I had a chance to tour SDSU and quite liked what I saw but the only thing holding me back is how I’ll be able to concentrate on studying there and how the students behave. I have heard that overall, SDSU students care about looks and don’t really take anything else into account when meeting new people, and spend way too much time away from the books, but this is just what I’ve heard and it’s the only thing keeping me from the school. I love the campus look, the engineering department and the location of SD. And again, they have given me my major of choice. I’ve heard it’s near impossible to transfer in SJ from undeclared to CE now after the sudden increase in competition for CE at SJSU. I’m really losing my mind taking all of this into consideration and would appreciate the wise words of the people at College Confidential. Which would you choose at the end of the day given my circumstances and the desire to have a successful job after undergrad?
My younger son is a CS major at SDSU and would definitely contradict what you have heard. Every school has a variety of student types and yes some may not be the studious kind but many are hard working academically and serious about getting an education. It should be easy to find like minded students if you take the time to look. If you like SDSU, go with your gut and forget what other people say.

If you do not want to worry about getting a high enough GPA to get into your major, then going to SDSU where you are already in the major eliminates this worry.
