is it possible to be in the school of engineering and still fulfill premed courses? is the curriculum flexible? and is it possible to switch between schools, or double major between schools (science and engineering)

To my knowledge there’s no actual “premed” major here. Most people just major in something somewhat relevant to what they plan to do for med school. For example, someone might major in Spanish and Political Science and still be premed. As far as comp sci plus premed, I’m not too sure. I know it’s pretty common for Biomedical Engineers to be premed, and I don’t think anyone would stop you from trying. I guess your main concern would be if you wanted to double major in something like Biology to be more prepared for med school.

If you plan on double majoring, it’s possible, but you will need to either have quite a few AP/IB credits or plan on taking summer courses. Comp sci is a pretty demanding major, and while it’s possible to double major, you’ll find that it’s going to be hard to squeeze in all your classes before you graduate.

Keep in mind I’m just talking about a general case here. I’m sure some majors will have a bit more overlap with comp sci. Chemistry, for example. Comp Sci majors have to take the first two Chemistry courses (or substitute the second with Materials Science) as part of their main curriculum. It’s definitely possible you could snag an extra major in Chemistry along the way without a huge fuss.

As stated above, there isn’t a “pre-med” major. Being premed usually means you major in something science-related and just fulfill all the courses that med schools require. You’d just enroll in the college of engineering, but for the record, you can double major between schools.

There’s a fair amount of overlap between the CompSci requirements and premed requirements, so it’s definitely manageable (CompSci requirments: http://www.vanderbilt.edu/catalogs/undergrad/UGAD.pdf#page=306 ). Chemistry, bio, physics, and calc are all pretty standard for “premed.” The good news is the College of Engineering is much lighter on liberal arts requirements than Arts&Sciences is. Also, engineering will accept all of your AP credits, while A&S limits how many you can use.

There is a premed track for comp sci majors:
