companies dont come to my campus

hello,

i am a junior at albany state university i am a dual major in analytical finance and accounting with a minor in economics, my GPA is around a 3.65 and should be around a 3.8 by graduation. my plan is to work for a investment bank after i get out of college i have been doing application after application for companies like Goldman JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank, and many others.
the problem i feel that i am going to run into is that since none of these companies recruit directly from my campus all i will be is just a name on a computer application and not a person. also i do not go to a name brand university. i have been doing my reaserch and do realized that in a situation like this it helps to know people which i do not.
what is it i should be doing to better my chances of getting an interview from one of theses companies. i would be very happy with a non paid summer internship with any of these companies just because it will get my foot in a door some which to me will be worth more than the paycheck at the end of the summer.
anyone that can give me some advise would be great

I was in a similar situation as you. I attended a smaller liberal arts college and majored in accounting and finance. Virtually no employers recruited at my school because of the size. I think the key is making a connection with these employers somehow. I know one thing that I was able to do was get onto the website for one of the larger schools near me and attend some of their meet and greets with employers, most totally understood why I was attending another school’s event and were impressed with the resourcefulness. Look for student groups (not necessarily confined to your school) and professional groups that would provide networking opportunities with employees at the firms you are looking to get into. I know you are looking for ibanking, but an example that I did was join my state’s CPA society and attend some of their events, maybe there are similar groups that you could get involved with that are geared towards ibanking? Otherwise, as you stated, your resume is simply another file in their inbox (not to say this can’t work).
