Comparable Schools out of IN?

I admire all of you for giving of your time and knowledge in replying to so many posts like the one I'm about to write :D

I'm an Indiana girl, and like a whole heck of a lot of you, have pretty decent stats that I'll post if you want to see them. For right now, I plan to apply to four schools in-state (Purdue, Ball State, IU Bloomington, and Notre Dame). I asked earlier about my chances at ND and was told that it's almost a shoo-in, but I'd love more feedback on that. I'm positive about the other three. Anyway, considering that a lot can change in the next year and a half, I want to have some out-of-state options. I'm looking for schools with strong science programs to jumpstart my career as either a vet, pediatrician, or pathology/genetic researcher. Equestrian and Choral programs would be a plus, and I can't stand hot, humid weather. Good merit-based scholarships would be quite nice (I'll prob end up as a NMF). It might help to know, too, that I have fallen in love with Notre Dame from afar. I kind of hold the other schools at arms length because they are SO BIG!

I know this would have been just as simple to run a search on, but real human feedback makes it that much more reliable.

Thanks a Bunch! :D

If you love Notre Dame, you might like BC or Holy Cross.

If you love IU & Purdue, you might like Illinois, OSU, or Iowa.

Sorry, I'm a little in the dark about most colleges to start with (even in my own state!), but, Hanna, which Holy Cross did you mean? The one in Notre Dame, IN?

www.holycross.edu

You asked for schools outside of Indiana.

Since you seem to like larger universities, Try these for solid pre-vet programs: Cornell, Colorado State, U of Wisconsin, California Polytech-San Luis Obispo, University of California-Davis, U of Vermont, U of Maryland, U of Montana, Iowa State, U of New Hamphire, Michigan State, Washington State.

Some other choices good for biological sciences in general: U of Michigan, U of Wisconsin, Johns Hopkins, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Rochester, Boston U, Case Western Reserve, Tufts, Creighton, Marquette.

And, if you want to check out a few smaller schools, I'd highly recommend: St. Olaf, Lawrence, Carleton, Grinnell, Kenyon, Lehigh, Goucher (good bio and an on campus equestrian program), Colby, Colgate, Union, Dickinson, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, Bryn Mawr, Reed, Skidmore.

Good luck!

hanna...sorry, summer blank-out...thanks for the suggestions

carolyn...thank you as well. I'm glad you listed some small schools because it seems I misconveyed myself. I want to shelter myself from the crowds as much as possible whether I go to a school of population around 10,000 or work within an honors college at a big school. The groupings you gave me are awesome.

In that case, add Franklin & Marshall, Lafayette, Willamette, and Denison. By the way, I'd also suggest you take a look at Earlham in Indiana - they have one of the most beautiful equestrian facilities that I've seen on any college campus (and it is entirely student run, a great experience for potential vets), an excellent science program, a chorale group, and a very geographically diverse student body --- only something like 17% of kids are from Indiana. Heck, it's almost not in Indiana as you could probably walk on over to Ohio from campus.

Second the suggesttion of Holy Cross-great science majors with a vet school less than 20 miles away. Holy Cross offers merit aid to strong applicants and the college also has an equestrian team. Like Notre Dame, Holy Cross has good school spirit and location is only 1 hour to Boston.

Here are a few Boston College links you may find interesting ...

although it's a bit secluded....u of iowa has a great vet program. it's also a very pretty campus.

I'm also from Indiana, and I'm applying to all of those schools except Ball State. What are your stats?

carolyn, par72, BC_heightsman, and hanna...thanks so much for your suggestions; they were super helpful, and when/if I ever make up my mind, I will mention the winners:D

emswim...hooray for indiana people:) I take it you're a swimmer; I was 'til sophomore year; you saw my stats on the other forum, but I wrote something else there, too.
