Comparative Literature/Literature Major

Hello Everyone,

I am planning to transfer from Emory to schools that are higher/equivalent in the rankings. I was wondering if anyone knows universities/LACs with a broad comparative literature major where the program is not “comparative” per say (where you choose two languages to work with), but a broader/interdisciplinary approach to literature. So far I have found Duke (GCS), USC (comp lit), and Stanford (comp lit). Or a Literature major, where I will not be limited to just works from English, such as CMC and MIT. If anyone knows any other schools that they recommend, I would be extremely grateful!

Thank you!

Try Kenyon (slightly less selective than Emory):

Or Hamilton (slightly more selective than Emory):

More generally, you can peruse here:

Cool thank you! I will look more into them!

As you move forward with your search, @WheatHelmet, I’d recommend you consider the availability of complementary offerings in linguistics. The quantitative aspect of this field could inform and support your interest in comparative literature.

Williams https://comp-lit.williams.edu
Oberlin http://new.oberlin.edu/arts-and-sciences/departments/comparative_literature/
University of Michigan https://lsa.umich.edu/complit

One note on Williams, be aware of their not particularly accommodating <5% acceptance rate for transfer applicants.

Yes… most of the top schools are SO hard to transfer to, and I don’t really expect good news… I think I will most likely only get accepted at either UCLA, Berkeley, or USC… as I am a Californian resident. The program at Williams looks great, exactly what I am looking for actually, but I think I am sadly under-qualified…

Should you want a school even more selective than Emory, some from this group of 50 would give even a potential transfer student options:

Thank you, I will check them out!
